LOBAMBA – Nsingizini Hotspurs’ newly-signed Zimbabwean striker Kudakwashe Basopo has quickly established herself as a formidable contender for the coveted top goalscorer prize. In a dazzling display during the Women’s Ingwenyama Cup quarter-finals against Mbekelweni at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Centre, Lobamba, this past Sunday, Basopo showcased her remarkable talents, contributing to an astounding 15-0 victory that secured her team a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

This match was part of a thrilling double-header. The Zimbabwe-born forward joined the Shiselweni-based side during the off-season of the Zimbabwe women’s top-flight league, arriving on a six-month loan from Black Mambas Queens. In her brief time with Nsingizini, Basopo has made an immediate impact, netting an impressive seven goals in the aforementioned rout. “I came here to show that I am a striker and I’m here to score goals. It’s a shame that I’m coming from the off-season and this is my second game, but I love Nsingizini and the league, and I am hopeful I will do very well,” Basopo stated confidently.

Dominant

The striker is determined to dethrone Young Buffaloes Ladies as the dominant force in women’s football in the country. Having observed several tactical errors in the army ladies’ performances from the sidelines, she is eager to exploit these weaknesses to add to her goal tally. When asked about her ambitions to lead the goal-scoring charts in the Women’s Ingwenyama Cup, Basopo was resolute in her intentions. “I came to do exactly that; my main job and priority is to score goals. For me, this is just a start.

I have my eyes on the prize and essentially I’m trying to score as many goals as I can,” she asserted. Basopo also highlighted her desire to establish a reputation for herself, noting her recognition as an international player in Zimbabwe. In addition to Basopo, another international talent, Nthabeleng Potsane from Lesotho, has joined the ranks of Nsingizini Hotspurs. Potsane was equally impressive on the flanks during the match and expressed her gratitude for the warm reception she received upon her arrival in the country.

“Everything is fine so far; I’m settling in very well, and I received a warm welcome from my teammates,” said Potsane.
She emphasised that her goal is not merely to prove herself, but to enhance her skills, revealing that the competitive level in Lesotho is quite comparable. “Buffaloes are dominating, but we will see this time because I am here,” Potsane concluded with palpable excitement. As the competition progresses, all eyes will be on Basopo and her quest for the top scorer title, alongside her new teammate’s determination to make an impact in the league.
