‘BIRDS’, ‘BULL’ FOR ‘SUPER SUNDAY’ DOUBLE-HEADER

MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders are set to headline the much-anticipated MTN Premier League ‘Super Sunday’ double-header at Mavuso Sports Centre. Mbabane Swallows will kick off action with a curtain-raiser fixture against Ezulwini United at 2pm. Swallows are determined to apply pressure on the top three teams, currently sitting in fourth place. Their opponents, Ezulwini United, are equally motivated to ascend the MTN Premier League standings, as they find themselves in ninth place with 18 points to their name.

‘The Stingers’, as Ezulwini United are affectionately known, are currently level on points with the in-form Manzini Sea Birds, who occupy the position above them due to a superior head-to-head record. In their previous outing, Swallows faced Madlenya in the MTN Premier League, securing a convincing 3-0 victory, which featured a remarkable brace from Njongo Mazibuko, who recently joined the team from National First Division side Red Rhinos. Swallows will also benefit from the return of Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala, who was initially sidelined for four months due to injury.

His presence is expected to be pivotal for the club as they navigate both the league and the semi-finals of the Ingwenyama Cup. The second fixture of will showcase Mbabane Highlanders against Moneni Pirates. Both teams are in good form, although the ‘Sea Robbers’ suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Royal Leopard in their last league match, which also took place at the Mavuso Sports Centre. Moneni Pirates currently sit in fifth place, just a point behind Swallows, having accumulated 27 points from eight wins, three draws, and four losses.

Meanwhile, Highlanders are positioned in 10th place following their recent 3-0 triumph over Rangers at the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, having swapped places with the Shiselweni-based outfit due to Highlanders’ superior head-to-head record. It will also be non-stop action in the MTN National First Division, with aPigg’s Peak derby between Black Swallows and Malanti Chiefs at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre on Saturday. Action gets underway at 2:30pm.
