MBABANE – Nsingizini Hotspurs, the ambitious side from Shiselweni, are determined to end Royal Leopard’s impressive 15-game unbeaten run in the 2024/25 MTN Premier League.

The two teams are set to clash tomorrow in a crucial top-of-the-table encounter at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm. Nsingizini’s caretaker Assistant Coach, Mpendulo Mawelela, acknowledged the challenges ahead, but expressed confidence in avenging their first-round defeat to the visitors.

“They are a big team and they still owe us after beating us in our first-round meeting. We’ll make them taste defeat as we’ll be going all out for the full three points. We understand it will be a difficult game, but we won’t accept defeat at home,” Mawelela stated yesterday during pre-match interviews at Sigwaca House in Mbabane.

Despite having secured victory against the police side three times in their last five encounters, the former Manzini Wanderers assistant coach stressed that history counts for little. He admitted to feeling some pressure following the resignation of Zimbabwe-born Coach Alexion Sigion, but remains confident in his ability to manage the situation.

Meanwhile, Leopard’s Coach, Edwin Matsebula offered a reserved assessment ahead of the match. He echoed Mawelela’s sentiment regarding the irrelevance of past results in high-stakes games. “We’re preparing and preparations are still ongoing. It won’t be an easy game and they are one of the strongest teams in the league so far,” the log leaders coach remarked. He also conceded that, despite their eight league titles, his side does not have a strong record against Nsingizini.

Potential

Meanwhile, Mbabane Highlanders’ new Coach Meck Mwase promised a spirited performance in his debut after reuniting with the city giants. Having spent three days training with the team, he noted their potential talent. “I admit that we don’t deserve to be in our current league position and we must fight to finish in a respectable place. We are not favourites, considering our league position compared to our opponents, but we’ll do our best to win on the day,” said the former Nsingizini coach. His counterpart, Caleb ‘No-Nonsense’ Ngwenya indicated that preparations are ongoing and they aim to be ready by Sunday. He believes a favourable result is within reach and remarked that history is irrelevant as they focus on one game at a time.
