SWIMLAB EAGER TO DOMINATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

MBABANE - Swimlab Swimming Club look set to make a splash at the National Championships, which begin today. The swimming club have already asserted their dominance ahead of the qualification phase, which will span a gruelling six-day period at Enjabulweni Independent School in Manzini. Competitors will face an endurance-testing sequence of events as they battle for the prestigious title of national champions.

The competition is set to conclude on Sunday, promising a relentless test of physical and mental resilience for all participants. Swimlab Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi, however, expressed his disappointment at the low number of participants, noting that a larger field would have created a more competitive and engaging atmosphere. “The numbers are low for us as a club, and it’s not what Swimlab is used to,” Nhlabatsi said. “But bearing in mind that we had swimmers leave the club this year, we have still done well.

No one is close to us, and we are proud as a club.” According to Nhlabatsi, who is also the former interim President of the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA), a concerted effort is needed to increase participation in next year’s National Championships. The current turnout falls well below the ideal threshold of 20 swimmers, he revealed. “We have gone back to development and are producing more swimmers,” he continued. “We’ve given ourselves four years to rebuild, and we are restructuring and returning to the drawing board to bring up new talent. We are still the biggest club.”
