WANDERERS SEEK RETURN OF PLE CONTEMPT CASE

MBABANE - It’s far from over.

Since the proceedings before the Supreme Court have been concluded, Manzini Wanderers FC have filed a notice to reinstate the contempt of court proceedings that are pending before the High Court. The contempt of court proceedings were instituted by Wanderers after Judge Mumcy Dlamini ruled in their favour. Judge Dlamini ordered that the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Appeals Board’s decision be reviewed and set aside and that Wanderers be reinstated into the ongoing MTN Premier League season.

This judgment overturned the EFA Appeals Board’s verdict, which had ruled against Wanderers’ protest concerning the eligibility of Denver Sundowns’ captain, Jimoh Moses. Seeing that the order issued by Judge Dlamini was not being complied with, Wanderers filed the contempt of court application. Judge Mbutfo Mamba issued an order staying the proceedings before Judge Dlamini, pending finalisation of the appeal. The appeal has been finalised.

Contempt

Wanderers have since filed a notice to reinstate the contempt of court matter that had been stayed pending finalisation of the appeal.  This action targets the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) trio: the chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), and chief operations officer (COO). “The applicant will, on March 13, 2025, apply to the above court for the reinstatement of the contempt proceedings against the Respondents, which were stayed by an Order and/or judgment of the Supreme Court,” states an extract from the notice.

This follows closely on the heels of another notice of application for review, filed by Moneni Pirates through Counsel Azi Hlatshwako. Pirates are seeking to have the judgment of February 20, 2025, reviewed, corrected and/or set aside. Wanderers are represented by Advocate Mduduzi Mabila, who is instructed by SM Jele Attorneys.
