MBABANE – Former Manzini Wanderers striker Hassan Balogun has propelled Denver Sundowns to the summit of the MTN National First Division (NFD) table.

The NFD January Player of the Month netted a second half brace yesterday during their match against Ludzeludze Killers, securing a sweet revenge for his team. Sundowns thrashed Killers 4-0 in a match played at KaLanga Technical Centre, allowing them to leapfrog Malanti Chiefs and temporarily occupy top spot.

Artwell Mdluli’s side also saw first-half goals from Alakhe ‘Vulindlela’ Mtsetfwa and Vuyolwethu Makhubu. Sundowns are the provisional league leaders, enjoying a two-point cushion and a two-game advantage over Chiefs. However, Chiefs have a chance to reclaim their position today as they clash with Masundwini Royal Swallows in their week 19 fixture. They also have an opportunity to widen the gap with their pending match against Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, which was postponed.

Meanwhile, Mpumelelo Ngwenya’s side, Killers, remain languishing at the bottom of the table, with relegation fears looming as the season draws to a close.
