ESWATINI LEGENDS ENTER HALL OF FAME: ‘SCARA’, ZOMBODZE, MARATHON HERO HONOURED
MATSAPHA – History was made last night, as the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) inducted its greatest sporting personalities into the Hall of Fame.
The prestigious ceremony, the fifth edition of the National Sports Awards, took place at Esibayeni Lodge. The awardees received the coveted national jacket and a trophy, presented by the Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima. First to be honoured was Robert ‘Zombodze’ Magagula, former President (and current Honorary President) of the Eswatini Olympic Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA). He was previously inducted into the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region V Hall of Fame in 2022.
Legendary
Also inducted was the country’s legendary striker, Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa. The former Bulembu Young Aces forward was recognised for his outstanding representation of Eswatini during his time with South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs. The late marathon runner, Richard Mabuza, was posthumously inducted for his remarkable achievements on the road in the 1970s.
