EFA EYES FIFA U-17 W. CUP SPOT
MBABANE – The Chief Executive Officer of EFA, Frederick Mngomezulu, has set his sights firmly on participation in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In his remarks during the 2025 Hub Utility Stores Under-17 prize presentation held at Sigwaca House, two days ago, Mngomezulu expressed gratitude to Hub Utility for their investment in youth development, highlighting the importance of partnerships in nurturing young talent. He stressed the necessity of covering all aspects of football development, aiming to bridge the gap in quality and ensure a bright future for Eswatini football.
Mngomezulu revealed that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) U-17 World Cup, previously a biennial event, will now be held annually. He emphasised the Eswatini Football Association’s (EFA)ambition to see Eswatini compete on the global stage, not merely to make up the numbers.
Initiative
“It is now not a choice for us to host tournaments for the youngsters, as FIFA has issued a great initiative to have the FIFA Under-17 World Cup played yearly. Such competition will help us identify a competitive side, with players forming the backbone of future national teams,” Mngomezulu stated.
He called for full support of youth development programmes, including workshops focusing on medical aspects to ensure the safety and security of young players. Mngomezulu made it clear that EFA does not want the sport to be compromised, prioritising the well-being of the athletes.
