MBABANE – Trendsetters!

This is MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Highlanders, who are reportedly moving to change the landscape of Eswatini football. The black and white capital city giants are currently under the leadership of former striker Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane, whose reunion with Highlanders was announced on January 28, 2025.

Since then, the team has seen major changes, such as unveiling a new manager, Malawian Mack Mwase and re-engaging Lington Gule as head of communications and improved performance. Inkunz’emnyama, during the unveiling of Mwase, promised to provide him with a personal car to carry out his duties with ease.

A source close to the ‘Bull’s kraal alleged that the team, under the leadership of ‘Rubber’, wants to make history by setting the standards, being the first to purchase vehicles for all the structures. “They want to be a leading light, as they have recently presented the marketing team with their own vehicle, which is the first-of-its-kind in the country,” the source said.

When asked how much the team has spent on purchasing the two vehicles, the source declined to give the details, directing this publication to Mandla Simelane, who is part of the Highlanders Management Committee (MC). Mandla expressed excitement at the work done by the leaders of the team in securing the two vehicles. “We want to be different from the other clubs by providing cars to the team. Although I am not exactly sure of the amount, what I gathered is that both of them cost over E200 000,” Mandla said.

He also revealed that they will purchase a bus for the team next season, as the one they used was repossessed by under-fire Managing Director (MD) Ally Kgomongwe. The capital city giants unveiled the technical bench’s vehicles two days ago. They said: “As we strive to restore this club to its rightful position at the top of the pyramid, we are laying down essential building blocks. The technical team is the next department to benefit from this initiative, as the club has procured a second vehicle to facilitate their movement and enhance their ability to carry out their duties,” the city giants wrote on their Facebook page.

Priority

Meanwhile, Communications Manager, Gule, said it was their MD’s priority to ensure that the technical team has its own transport so that even when the general manager (GM) is held up elsewhere, they are able to carry out their duties. Gule said they believe that with these departments having their own vehicles, they will be able to work efficiently.

It is worth mentioning that elite league teams such as Nsingizini Hotspurs, Mbabane Swallows, Moneni Pirates, Manzini Sea Birds and Ezulwini United have their own mid-buses to transport the players.
