NSIZWA CHASES HISTORIC 10TH MEDAL
MBABANE – Zithande Athletics Club (ZAC) Coach Nsizwa Thwala is poised to make history as he prepares for the ultimate test of endurance.
This will be during his 10th Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. The 56km ultra-marathon, held annually in Cape Town, is a highly sought-after challenge for elite long-distance runners, and Thwala is determined to etch his name further into the history books. As the clock ticks down to the race tomorrow, Thwala, who is travelling solo, expressed both his excitement and unwavering determination.
“I am heading to Cape Town on my own this time, having left home yesterday morning by road to catch a bus from Johannesburg. This will be my 10th Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, and it is a milestone I have been chasing for years,” Thwala said. The 56km event is no small feat, but with nine previous editions under his belt, Thwala is more than ready for the challenge.
“If I complete this race, I will be awarded my Blue Number – a permanent race number that holds immense pride within the running community. Runners with Blue Numbers receive special recognition, and it’s an honour I’m striving towards,” he explained. However, for Thwala, this isn’t just about a number. He reflected on the race’s personal significance, stating: “The Two Oceans Marathon is more than just a race for me. It’s a defining moment that changed my life. Preparing for this event and crossing that finish line transformed me physically, mentally and emotionally. It’s the reason I’ve been able to help others become extraordinary runners too,” he added.
Despite the gruelling journey ahead, Thwala remains focused on the finish line. “Even though the long trip will leave me exhausted and with little time to rest, I’m determined to get to that finish line and claim my 10th medal,” he concluded.
