MORE THAN E90k FOR VOC HALF MARATHON
MANZINI - Voice of the Church (VOC) Half Marathon has received a significant boost ahead of its fourth edition, with several companies partnering for the event.
Others have contributed cash support. This announcement was made during the launch of the fourth edition, which took place at the church in Manzini. The festivities will be held on May 3 at Zakhele Sports Ground in Manzini.
Key stakeholders for this edition contributed by providing designated water points to ensure that all participants remain hydrated throughout the race.
The fourth edition of the VOC Half Marathon offers a variety of distances, including a 5km, a 10km and the main event - a 21km race.
Bishop Zachariah Mthethwa emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy and fit body, as no one has a spare one, stressing the need for everyone to be active.
He remarked: “Physical training and the stretching of our muscles, is valuable to a certain extent. However, Godliness is of greater value for this life and the one to come.”
Bishop Mthethwa mentioned that he has prioritised weightlifting at the Fitness Zone in Manzini, noting that this practice has been very beneficial.
He also encouraged other church leaders and all members of the congregation to participate in large numbers.
He highlighted the improved participation over previous editions, expressing gratitude for the growing numbers.

He also explained the rationale behind hosting the half marathon, stating that it helps to increase their listener base.
He concluded by announcing that VOC has provided E50 000 to cover the administrative costs for the event. Meanwhile, Darius Dlomo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) mentioned that they would support the half marathon with E20 000.
“It’s unfortunate that every time the race is here, I am out of the country, just as I will not be present for this edition; however, my team will be there,” noted Dlomo.
Furthermore, Nsizwa Thwala, Coach of Zithande Athletics Club, spoke on behalf of the Athletics Eswatini (AE) President, Zakhele Dlamini, relaying a message from him that urged participants to be vigilant while running alongside oncoming traffic.
Eswatini Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS) Station Director Sabelo Dlamini also contributed by providing marketing support, ensuring coverage of the event in hopes of attracting the targeted number of participants.
He confirmed their participation in the fourth edition, stating: “We also had an event planned for May 3, but we have postponed it because we want to participate in the half marathon.”
