Platinum Stars' game retains Yuki's confidence
MBABANE – Swazi international and Orlando Pirates’ mid-fielder, Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina, said his appearance against Platinum Stars last Wednesday retained his confidence after a long time on the sidelines.
Masina made a rare appearance for the star-studded Soweto giants following a lengthy spell on the bench, which led to speculation that he would be off-loaded to rookies, Vasco Da Gama a few weeks into the season.
Masina told Kickoff’s website soon after Wednesday’s game that he was confident he could still secure his future with Pirates.
Quality
"I came here with high hopes of making a name for myself, but things have not gone the way I would have wanted. Pirates is a big team with a lot of quality players, and it is not easy to walk into the starting line-up," he said.
It was ‘Yuki’s first appearance in the league this season, and it is highly unlikely that it would be sustained, given the form of players like Tlou ‘Gautrain’ Segolela and Dikgang ‘Terminator’ Mabalane.
The other player competing for the same spot is Joseph ‘Dukuduku’ Makhanya, who is yet to feature.
"Even though the technical team has always encouraged me, somehow I was beginning to worry about my lack of game time.
Training
"However, the Stars game has restored my confidence and I know if I continue working hard and impressing the coach at training, I will get more opportunities to play," he said.
‘Yuki’ replaced Clifford Ngobeni in the second half, and this was more a central switch compared to wide right where he normally plays.
The player is currently gallivanting around the country with his team-mate and friend, Teko Modise, who has also recently returned to the Pirates team after a dismal loss of form.
