Taribo's career reaches end of the road at COSMOS

MBABANE – South African Jomo Cosmos striker Mfan’futhi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe will be one of the players who is set to be off-loaded by newly promoted South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side, Jomo Cosmos.

Cosmos beat Bay United on penalties during the second leg match of the National First Division playoffs on Sunday at Tembisa Stadium to bounce back to the elite league.

However, the former Mbabane Swallows striker is one of the players that will not be part of the glory of playing in the PSL with the team.

Bhembe has failed to make an impact at the club since he joined from Swallows two seasons ago alongside former Manzini Wanderers midfielder Felix Badernhorst and Mbabane Highlanders defender Mpendulo Kunene.

Unfortunately, Kunene’s deal could not materialise as both teams failed to agree on his transfer fee and he was cleared back to Highlanders.

Another Swazi player Phinda ‘Phindrix’ Dlamini joined Cosmos last season from SuperSport United.

Last season the lanky striker played a few league starts for Cosmos before they were relegated.

Since the beginning of the current campaign, the Mbabane-born striker struggled to make it to the top 16 as he was once relegated to train with reserve side.

In an interview yesterday, Cosmos owner Jomo Sono confirmed that he is not happy with the input of the player, whom he said does not fit in the team’s style of play. However, Sono said all players’ transfers will be finalised next week.

"Taribo’ is a good player but he doesn’t fit in our style which is why he has not been playing regularly for the team. So, it is very possible that he will be released during the pre-season but we will finalise everything next week," he said.

Asked on the other two Swazi players he said they were still in his plans for the next season.
