Taribo' an amateur

MBABANE – Giants, Mbabane Swallows’ talismanic forward, Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe, is registered as an amateur player.
In essence, this means the ‘Birds’ trusted forward is not entitled to a monthly salary. It also denotes that he can also quit the red and white ensemble at the end of the season and join a team of his choice freely without Swallows holding on to him.
Insiders at Swallows revealed yesterday that Bhembe is currently playing without a contract, which was an agreement between both parties.
"Taribo felt he would be more than comfortable playing without a contract because he feels he is at Swallows to stay. He is at home in the team. Moreover, the player feels the team has done a lot for him, not just as far as his career is concerned, but in life in general. Both parties to be honest are comfortable with the arrangement," a source close to the matter said.
Meanwhile, Swallows CEO, Sibusiso Manana asked not to commit himself much on the latest revelations, insisting that the player belonged to them.
Meanwhile, Bhembe also declined to reveal the finer details of his contract, saying he was determined to help the team win more trophies now that he has apologised for his public outbursts and decision to question the team’s technical bench’s decision to substitute him during the game against Malanti Chiefs, which was played at Somhlolo National Stadium last weekend.
The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Frederick Mngomezulu, explained yesterday that two sets of players can be registered.
"These are professional players and amateur players. A professional player is one who signs a contract with his club and gets paid for his services, while an amateur player is not entitled to a monthly salary.
"Both these types of players render services to their respective teams, but there is a difference on the finer details of their respective statuses. For instance, an amateur player can only move from his team at the end of a season or during the registration window.
His team cannot have a say on whether they can stop him from leaving or not. For professional players however, the team would have a say on his move and depending on the number of years the contract’s duration is for, then that particular team fully owns the player," he explained.
The player has since had a sudden change of heart about quitting the club, after publicly apologising yesterday morning in the presence of the club’s acting CEO, Sibusiso Manana and General Manager Sandile Zwane.
COMMENTS:
- In addition to Amateur I wish Swallows could also register him as Immature.
