Yuki's first goal, medal in sa bucs

MBABANE – Yesterday was the day of first for Swazi international Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina in the colours of South Africa’s Orlando Pirates during the Telkom Charity Cup in Royal Bafokeng Palace Stadium in Rustenburg.
Not only did he play his first game for the Soweto Bucca-neers but he scored his first goal during the penalty shoot-outs and also won his first medal with the ‘Black and white’ outfit.
It was also his first Telkom Charity Cup medal since he moved to play in the money-spinning South African Premier Soccer League back in 1999.
The ‘Buccaneers’ first side-stepped their arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs on penalties and then went on to beat plucky Platinum Stars 4-2 on penalty shoot-outs as well. Both games had ended in 1-all draws in normal time.
Masina, who had a fair game, also played 90 minutes for the first time in God-knows-how many matches in South Africa.
Wearing jersey 34, lurking by on the right flank, Masina made two significant contributions in the first half, sending in a sublime cross to Thulasizwe Mbuyane in the 40th minute, who headed wide despite being in an off-side position.
Then the dreadlocked winger was unlucky when his shot was blocked by the Platinum Stars goalkeeper, Tapuwa Kapini two minutes later and Lebohang Mothibantwa blasted the rebound over the bar. Interviewed yesterday, an elated Masina said he was happy to win his first medal on his first game for Pirates.
“I am so happy, I mean this was my first game and I must thank the coach for the words of encouragement. He even picked me to take the penalty and I am happy I scored. This means there are better things to come this season,” Masina said last night.
Masina admitted that he was nervous when the game began but “I got better as the game went on. I will get used to Pirates style and improve,”
He also acknowledged that he still need to improve his work-rate. “I was given a special pro-gramme of training by the coa-ch and I am glad that I am doing well thus far. I will be in fine form soon,” he said.
The ‘Buccaneers’ take on Ajax Cape Town in the MTN 8 Cup at the ‘Park of Pain’, Coca Cola Park on Wednesday night.
