'˜Dazza' feels ill-treated at Swallows

The player is currently shunning the capital city giants’ activities and he even missed out on the international friendly match against Burkina Faso on Monday at the Ngwenyama Conference and Sports Resort.

Swallows acting CEO Sibusiso Manana confirmed that the player did raise his concerns with them. He said they were aware that the player was no longer happy at the team and he decided to excuse himself from the club’s activities.

"He claims to be ill-treated and not given enough game time. This is beyond us as management because it is the sole prerogative of the technical bench to select players for any match. Not all players can play in a single game. He is aware that we have a big squad and the players are being rotated," he said.

Manana disputed reports that they owed the player money. He said Christie has not resigned and that he never indicated that he wanted to quit the team.

"We do not owe any player. Darren is just not happy with the treatment by the team. He thinks he is not treated like the other players. The matter will be sorted out soon and for now he is away from the club," he said. Efforts to get comments from the player proved futile as his cellphone rang unanswered for the better part of the day yesterday. He was called at noon, 3:30pm and 5:30pm. Christie was substituted in Sunday’s match against Manzini Sea Birds for Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe in the second half. They won the game 5-2.

He was also left out of the national team, Sihlangu, which left the country yesterday for Nelspruit to play a practice match against Burkina Faso at Nelspruit Rugby Stadium.
