SITEKI - At exactly 6:44am, the bowels of the earth at Moyeni in Siteki opened up to swallow cycling sensation, Trevor ‘Gift’ du Pont.

The 22-year old died tragically after he was knocked down by a truck at KaKhoza in Manzini last Friday.
Over 200 mourners converged at the area situated over a kilometre away from the small town to pay their last respects to the gifted youngster described as a conqueror.

His close relative identified as Mathokoza du Pont described ‘Gift’ as a hero. “He was a superman and we expected him to be an ideal replacement of his late father. His future looked very bright,” he said.

Several speakers took turns in portraying the reigning Nedbank Imvelo Classic King of the Mountain’s passion for the fastest growing sport. Sponsors Swazi Frontier’s Brett Foss said the star cyclist’s will power prompted the company to come on board to provide him with a technical sponsorship. “We were impressed by the cyclist’s determination and tenacity. He oozed with a bundle of energy,” he said.

Meanwhile Newcom Cycling Wheels’ Mbusi Motsa, who mentored, ’Gift’ said the latter’s death was a huge loss to the country.
Also witnessing the emotional send off of the promising cyclist was Cycling Association of Swaziland President Mandla Simelane, his deputy William Kelly and Secretary Menzi Tsela, among others. Some of the cyclists who attended included Lungile Mkhabela and Moshoe-shoe Khumalo, to mention a few.
