LOBAMBA – All female spectators including Swazi Telecom staff will not be allowed access to the royal box at Somhlolo National Stadium if they are wearing pants.

The ban was confirmed yesterday by Swazi Telecom’s Head of Sales and Marketing Charles Ndlovu after the matter was raised during the stadium inspection.

“Every Swazi knows our culture, so we don’t expect any female who will be at the royal box to come wearing pants. This also goes for our staff who should make sure they are not in pants on the day,” he said. He said while this may not have been observed in past games, it was important that everyone adhered to this especially because the royal box is a sacred place which means it must be accorded all the respect it deserves.

Another issue that came up was that of the walking around the pitch by SPTC staff while a game was ongoing. FA Executive Member Johannes ‘Ace’ Soboza raised the two pertinent issues with Ndlovu. On the walking around, Soboza said football rules did not allow such as it was interpreted as foreign objects.

“Only demarcated ball boys can be seen near the pitch but anyone who walks around must ensure that is done way off the field at least by the synthetic track,” he said.
This was also a point well taken by Ndlovu who said they would do all they could to minimise the walking around even though the staff was expected to perform various duties like food distribution among other things.
