MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers goalkeeper Basil Mthethwa has dumped relegated Mbabane Highlanders for Manzini Sundowns.

The former Sihlangu goalminder started the preseason training with the fallen capital city giants alongside left winger Khayelihle ‘Karas’ Dlamini only to have a change of heart. He started training with Sundowns on Tuesday. According to a well-placed source, Basil was set to sign on the dotted line before the end of the passing week as negotiations between him and Sundowns were now at an advanced stage.

“The team is now looking forward to signing the player outright as they were long interested in his services. But, the technical bench is still assessing him while the negotiations are still ongoing,” the source said. Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa did not hide their intention to sign the player following the departure of Sanda Mathabela to Green Mamba. Another goalkeeper who is still under assessment is Mpendulo ‘Sicoco’ Dlamini.

“It is true, the team is indeed interested in the services of the player. Basil is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the country so we are very confident that his signing will add value to the team,” Matsenjwa said. The player refused to comment but confirmed having talks with Sundowns, with a possibility of joining them. Another Wanderers player who is set to join Sundowns is left back Mciniseli Dlamini. The players are likely to feature for Sundowns in the international friendly game against Sivutsa tomorrow in Nelspruit, South Africa.
