LOBAMBA – The Swaziland National Volleyball Association (SNVA) elections were called off after the outgoing executive failed to submit financial reports.

SNVA members suggested that the elections should be postponed to September 28 and they were giving the executive headed by Eric Sibanda a chance to prepare the financial reports.

The members felt that the elections had to be called off after the Treasurer, Thabo Dlamini, said he had failed to collect all the financial statements as he took over midterm after the resignation of the elected Treasurer Sandile Motsa.
Dlamini was co-opted to the committee alongside Secretary Mpendulo Dlamini and Vice-President Michael Dlamini in July 2012.
Khalangilile Volleyball Club representative Zama Tsabedze said there was a need for a forensic audit in the financial statements. “The executive members have failed its members. I feel we have to give them time to put their house in order,” he said.

SNVA outgoing President Sibanda said it was unfortunate that their treasurer was not signing for the usage of funds as they had a problem when they took over two years ago. He said they were still using the former treasurer when they want to access money.
“If the members feel that we have to go and prepare the financial statements, we will do so. We are hopeful that when we return on September 28, everything will be in order,” he said.

Meanwhile, SNVA also faces suspension from the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) for failing to adhere to the constitution. SNVA affiliates have to adopt their new constitution.
The outgoing Secretary Mpendulo said the constitution will be part of the agenda on September 28 and he urged teams to submit their input before September 7.

With the new constitution, the elected executive will serve for four years instead of the two years currently served.
