USUTHU WIN U-11 CRICKET FESTIVAL
On Saturday, March 15, Usuthu Forest primary clinched the Under-11 6-Aside cricket festival hosted by Enjabulweni primary. The weather conditions on the day not permitting the games to start at the predetermined time, play resumed an hour late and excitement was bliss for cricket is a game of individual brilliance yes but team work is pivotal. The boys were in to prove each other with their stuff for a beautiful team trophy and little trophies for accolades were on the table for grabs.
GROUP STAGES
Usuthu Forest dominated proceedings in their group B category sending Hlanganani, Khanyisile and Thembelisha packing. The same was true in group A as Montessori collected also bonus points in two matches Ubombo and Enjabulweni being the victims, and Sifundzani gave their fellow neighbours a run for their money as Montessori grabbed a 2 runs win from the determined side.
It looked as if Montessori were to cruise to the final for their form and momentum looked sharp to sail through Thembelisha in the semi final clash. But games are not won on paper for the former had all needed to put a game in to the bank. Nerves got into the way to the team and unfortunately they could not deal with them as the Lusoti, Simunye, residents posted a lead difficult to chase, of 37 runs.
HAYDEN, BRAT
BRILLIANT
Hayden Loffler after dictating proceedings with his bat on the crease in the group stages looked grimly determined to make the chase feasible, but after scoring a couple he got caught brilliantly by the Thembelisha fielders.
With Loffler out, the lads did not falter but persisted although could only make up to 32 runs losing by 5 runs and finished third in the competition getting bronze medals.
Usuthu Forest on the other hand followed the script as written for their brilliance, notably directed by Brat Cutting, was a marvel to watch.
Cutting posted man of the match efforts in all the matches for he is an admirable batsman and bowler, an all-rounder in the making.
They saw off Ubombo in the semi finals and cruised over Thembelisha to be crowned the champions of the 6-Aside cricket u-11 festival.
Hayden Loffler of Montessori was crowned the batsman of the tournament with a total of 31 runs in the entire tournament and Brat Cutting, Usuthu Forest, the bowler of the tournament for his technical superiority and picking 8 wickets.
Stern competition, fun and excitement were the order of the day at Enjabulweni and the boys left the spectators yearning for more.
