FA SUSPENDS ALL MTN PREMIER LEAGUE GAMES

MBABANE – The exciting MTN Premier League will take a break for at least three weeks after a directive was issued by the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) to cancel games this week.

The league games are now likely to return until the last weekend of the current month of March.
This is due to the fact that the SwaziBank Cup will take centre-stage next week with the quarter-finals and the following week the semi-finals will be staged.
The National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) yesterday ordered the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) to not stage any games because this is a FIFA week.

The letter was sent to PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) John Mazibuko yesterday afternoon, written by NFAS Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu. The message could not have been any louder as part of the contents of the letter reminded the PLS that this was a FIFA week hence they should, ...stop all games.
The PLS COO confirmed that they would duly follow the orders given by the powers that be in local football, especially because the national team Sihlangu will be in action on Friday and Sunday away to Lesotho in international friendly games.

Subsequent to the above factors, the much anticipated, pending top-of-the-table clash between second-placed league defending champions Mbabane Swallows and current log leaders Royal Leopard has once again been put on hold.
It had initially been scheduled for tomorrow night after it was called off due to a fault with the Somhlolo National Stadium lights on Wednesday last week.

Mazibuko confirmed: “That (pending) game will definitely not be played because of the Sihlangu games on the weekend. After receiving the letter, we have definitely been forced to cancel all premier league games on the weekend.”
Meanwhile it was not certain as to whether the PLS would be staging MTN National First Division games over the weekend.
Mazibuko said they had planned on doing just that as it was allowed previously by the NFAS, but he was still to get clarity from the NFAS CEO on whether the directive was inclusive of the First Division games at the time of going to press.
