MINISTER FOR INTERVARSITY GAMES OFFICIAL OPENING

MBABANE – It is all systems go for the start of the Intervarsity Games this morning. The one-week event pitting the country’s university against its Botswana and Lesotho counterparts is expected to be officially opened by the Minister Education and Training, Phineas Magagula at 9:30am.

A programme confirmed by the University of Swaziland (UNISWA) Students Representative Council (SRC) revealed that the formalities would take centre stage at Ligcabho Lemaswati Sports Emporium at Kwaluseni Campus.
The minister has been slotted into the programme that will also see an address by Vice Chancellor, Professor Cisco Magagula.


Action gets underway as early as 7am as athletes are expected to storm the Mavuso Sports Centre synthetic track until after lunch. Other sports activities lined up for the day include athletics, basketball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, darts, cricket, volleyball and pool.
Meanwhile eyes will be on Manzini Wanderers stylish midfielder, Sandile ‘Theo’ Motsa, as the UNISWA soccer team hosts the National University of Lesotho (NUL) at Mavuso Sports Centre. Kick-off is set for 6:30pm.


The hosts assured that the games would adhere to international rules and professionals in the various sporting disciplines would come on board.
“The intervarsity games are worth more than gold and silver hanged over the head, hence the spirit of fair play, networking and mutual understanding and cooperation must prevail,” said SRC President Maxwell Dlamini.
The two visiting universities had all arrived by late Saturday.
