YOUNGSTERS DOMINATE BI/TRIATHLON TOURNEY
LUPHOHLO – Youngsters were a marvel to watch during the Bi/Triathlon Championships at Luphohlo Dam outside Mbabane yesterday.
The annual competition involves the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines, namely swimming, running and cycling. Youngsters who include 15-year-old Gilliana Gomes who competed in the junior female in the 800m swim and 5km run and 10-year-old Brayden Raw made the vigorous disciplines look easy. The latter was the individual biathlon champion. Also leaving a mark was 11-year-old Saint John Thomson who was the youngest cyclist competing in the challenging 12km cycle. He was third overall.
“It was a very very tough event. However, I enjoyed the race and I will return next year,” he said.
Meanwhile fast improving young swimmer, Lungelo Nxumalo, had to endure two disciplines as she had partnered with her father and Manzini Wanderers General Manager, Berger Nxumalo who only cycled. The pair was fourth overall.
A majority of the participants opted for the biathlon while less than 10 took part in the triathlon. The event was sponsored by PanSolutions Swaziland. The competitors got certificates and branded t-shirts.
