SRU SUMMONS SIZEZE PLAYERS
RUGBY – The Swaziland Rugby Union (SRU) has called upon all national team Sizeze’s players to attended training today.
The training camp is being held at UNISWA Sports Ground in Kwaluseni Campus, scheduled to start at 8:30am under the guidance of new national team coach Trevor Carmichael.
It is aimed at preparing Sizeze for the upcoming international friendly match against Lesotho who beat them in March and the SRU has called upon interested players to attend national training. Today at the UNISWA Sports Ground in Kwaluseni. Sizeze Eswatini are back in training.
The Lesotho game is in May at the Mavuso Sports Centre and after the surprising, shocking defeat to Lesotho in March, the SRU is determined not to have a repeat of that loss on home soil and such sentiments have also been shared by Carmichael.
“We all know how we lost the game in Lesotho and I, the players and the SRU do not want it to happen again. I have met with the players and discussed the game in Maseru, and they all understand what we have to do to beat Lesotho in May. The coaching staff and players are committed to training and more importantly, committed to building a game-winning side.”
He continued: “We have a lot of rugby talent out there in the Kingdom and with the coaching strategy we have put together, we will not only see playing numbers grow, but we will also see a vast improvement in playing skills at all levels of rugby. I have met with the SRU executive and outlined my plans not only for the game against Lesotho, but also the CAR tournament to be held in June in Botswana and the next two years. The SRU executive has committed its support for my plans for the future and as a coach, you can’t ask for more than that.”
He further promised to work closely with the club coaches in building a national team as well as helping clubs develop young players.
The SRU also has British Rugby Coach Callum Oliver arriving next month and he will not only be assisting with coaching the national side, but Callum will be out there visiting clubs, communities and schools to help the SRU identify and coach young up-and-coming rugby talent.
