MANZINI – The much anticipated MTN premier league top-of-the-table clash between Mbabane Swallows and leaders Royal Leopard has once again been called off.

This is for the third time running and the game that was scheduled to play on Wednesday will no longer take place due to the Somhlolo National Stadium lights issue. This was revealed by PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) John Mazibuko on Friday.

He was explaining the issue they faced at PLS with the venue shortages since the Mavuso Sports Centre Stadium also to be off limits as of next week.
“We have been forced to cancel the planned game featuring Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard because the Ministry (of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs) told the FA (National Football Association of Swaziland) that Somhlolo Stadium would no longer be available for evening games since the lights will be ready at the end of this month. The game had not been officially fixtured but we had set it for Wednesday, however, Somhlolo is unusable at night so it is now out of the question,” Mazibuko said.

Meanwhile, Mazibuko apologised for their blunder in that they cancelled a pending game in the MTN First Division where Red Lions were to play Hellenic on Friday night at Mavuso Stadium, only for the press and members of the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) to arrive and find that there was no game.

He explained that the SwaziBank Cup Management Committee had decided that there should be no league games played until after the semi-finals to be played next weekend, and such an order was issued to the PLS.
“We cancelled the game on Thursday after we had already issued the fixture. Such was communicated to the teams and we are very sorry that this was not done with the media and police. It was communication breakdown on our side and we apologise,” he said.
