MBABANE – Injured Moneni Pirates goalkeeper Bright ‘Komari’ Nxumalo will be out of action for a week.

The player got injured after being attacked by football fans at Mahlanya on Sunday afternoon after his team lost 5-6 against Mbabane Highlanders at Somhlolo National Stadium during the SwaziBank Cup quarter-finals.
The former XI Men In Flight goalkeeper got stitched under the eye, where he was hit with a bottle. Nxumalo sustained injuries together with Nhlanhla Gwebu and Mxolisi Lukhele, who both only got minor bruises.

“The doctor instructed me to stay out of action for some time to give the wound under my eye time to heal. We still do not know why we were attacked. The people who attacked us were from Somhlolo because they were wearing one of the team’s replicas,” he said.

Pirates will be out of action this weekend as the MTN Premier League is on break, giving way to the SwaziBank Cup semi-finals.
Pirates PRO Sifiso Masuku said they are still shocked by the incident. He said people should understand that football is a game.
Masuku thanked their supporters and those of Mbabane Highlanders for coming in their numbers on Sunday.
He said it shows that the country was still a football loving country.

“Moneni Pirates once again failed to go through the quarter-final stage of the SwaziBank Cup. We apologise to our fans and congratulate Highlanders as they were the eventual winners on the day,” Masuku said.
