MBABANE – When one door closes, another one opens goes a timeless axiom, which holds true for former Young Buffaloes coach, Texan Phiri.

The Zambian strategist, recently shown the exit door at Buffaloes, is the new National First Division League side, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows head coach.

He confirmed yesterday that he will be in charge at Black Swallows for the remainder of the season.
“Black Swallows approached me to help them in the remaining five or so games. We will review the agreement at the end of the season when obviously we will talk about longer term plans in the event both parties are satisfied with each other.

“I must say I am looking forward to the challenge of helping the team as best as I can. I was not attached to any team and there was no way I would have turned them down,” said Phiri.
He declined to make any promises to the Black Swallows supporters, only assuring them that they will work extra hard in trying to ensure that they reap positive results in the remaining games.

“Even though I was only with them for a brief period, the last time I was there, Black Swallows had very good players. I would not want to say much at this stage until I see the players at training and in a game situation then we can take it from there,” he said.
Black Swallows Director Charles Matsebula also confirmed the latest development, expressing hope that Phiri’s presence will help them finish in a respectable position on the log standings.

“We will then sit down with him at the end of the season and map a way forward. Mine would be to appeal to all stakeholders in the team to work hand in hand with the coach and give him the respect that he deserves for us to move forward,” he said.
