LOCAL FOOTBALL RUN BY ONE TEAM – SENATE
LOBAMBA – Senator Chief Kekela Dlamini has urged Minister of Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala to investigate how a certain team has so much influence on football’s administration at the PLS.
Senator Chief Kekela, a member of the ministry’s Portfolio Committee and also boss of National First Division strugglers Mvuma Hotspurs, made the allegations in Parliament yesterday morning during the debate on the ministry’s budget by the Senate Sports Portfolio Committee.
He told the minister that he had noted with great concern how an unnamed team was highly influential in football decisions, such that he alleged that the team was even using unorthodox means to counter any emerging defeat in its games.
“I am very worried about the bad practices in football, such that there is a certain team known to be doing such, even going to the extent of switching off (stadium) lights when losing. I also implore you, minister, to look into the matter of how one team can be in charge of football in the country.”
influence
He proceeded: “This (influence) goes as far as the fixtures as even in the SwaziBank Cup some teams, including mine, after being drawn as hosts were, however, meant to play their games away from home and told that it was because they were playing against a big team. I’m talking as a person in the thick of things in football and have dealt with such a thing.”
He asked the minister to provide answers as to how such was allowed to happen and further pleaded for the situation to be remedied.
The minister, who was accompanied by members of the SNSC in CEO Darius Dlomo, Finance Officer Zama Tsabedze, FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu, Ministry’s Director of Sports Sipho Magagula, Principal Secretary Sicelo Dlamini and Under Secretary Maswazi Shongwe among others, was told to provide answers in writing by 3pm yesterday.
