MALKERNS – Up and coming boxer Sandile Motsa yesterday caused the biggest upset of the day when he defeated crowd favourite and seasoned national team fighter Sibonelo Ndzimandze.
The muscular Zebra Force pugilist took the game to his experienced opponent from the onset, having him play on the back foot from round one.

Sandile then made the most Sibonelo’s relaxed approach when he put in a lot of punches to collect points towards the end of the three minutes. In the second round, Sandile continued to throw more pinches whilst Sibonelo mostly kept on defence and worked on the counter attack with a few punches of his own. It was the third and final round that saw the Ubombo boxer come to the party as his opponent struggled with fatigue whilst he had to play catch up.

Sibonelo showed his brilliance in the last round, moving sideways and backwards to avoid punches, while he would then move in for the kill after Sandile missed the target. He used his dangerous combination play and a bit of straight punches, forcing Sandile against the ropes all the time, but it was a case of too little too late.

The judges scored the game 3-0 in favour of Sandile who won on points.
The winner said he was still engulfed by disbelief, but had Sibonelo to thank as he had trained with him in preparation of the tournament and he had learnt a lot from the national team boxer.
