MBABANE – National rugby side, Sizeze skipper David McFadden and his assistant, George Mzungu, maintain that they have not been pushed out of the outfit.

Head coach Trevor Carmichael had announced early last week that he was sidelining the two gifted players as he disclosed that they were not part of his future plans. The pair came out to deny the claim, insisting on voluntarily walking out of the team for personal reasons, as earlier revealed by this publication.

The captain McFadden in a message sent to Swaziland Rugby Union (SRU) President Mike Collinson, which is in our possession, announced that he no longer wanted to be part of the team as some people had reportedly expressed their dissatisfaction on how he led the team in Lesotho.  Sizeze faced Lesotho in an international friendly match on February 22 this year. The message was sent immediately after the trip.  The country lost the contentious match 3-5.

“It has come to my attention that a lot of people are unhappy about the way I’ve handled the team in the trip. I feel it will be better if I stand aside from the national team,” reads the message in part.

The president communicated the text message to the coach during a meeting after the Lesotho trip.  Carmichael, in a letter, stated that he was notified that McFadden was no longer interested in the national team just before the meeting commenced.

“At the start of Saturday’s meeting the president told me that DJ McFadden was not going to attend the meeting and that McFadden had sent him a text message on Thursday evening informing him that he no longer wanted to be part of the national team in anyway,” reads the reponse from Carmichael.

McFadden and Mzungu boast of immeasurable experience from playing in South Africa and have vast knowledge in the sport.
However, in the letter Carmichael insisted that he had already taken a decision to drop the captain and the vice captain.
