MBABANE – The National Under-20 squad will play its first game in the African Youth Championships first round qualifiers on April 5 at Somhlolo National Stadium.

The match will kick-off at 3pm. The team will be playing for the first time in this tournament as in the past it usually competed only in the COSAFA Under-20 Championships.
This will be a first official match for newly-appointed coach Mandla Dlamini. According to the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) CEO Frederick Mngomezulu this will be the first leg match.

“At this point the NFAS would like to take this opportunity to invite the public to come and witness the National Under-20 team as it tries to pave its way to the next rounds of the Under-20 African Youth Championships. This is a competition for which they will be participating in for the first time,” he said.
Mngomezulu said this follows a decision by the football association to add one more competition to the normal calendar of the Under-20 where they have only participated in the Under-20 COSAFA Cup every year.

“This decision to participate in this competition seeks to enhance the development of players who will do duty to the senior national team in future, where international exposure would already have been inculcated to the players at an early stage,” he said.
Mngomezulu said the NFAS is greatly indebted to government through the provision of the E5 million funding which has made it possible to engage even the junior national teams in a national team development programme.
