MBABANE – Frustrated Mbabane Highlanders feel hard done by the latest fines such that the club has banned their supporters from watching other teams’ games.

Highlanders Acting PRO Thulani Khumalo said they took the resolution in a meeting held on Wednesday evening. Khumalo said they were prompted to take such a step as they have already suffered a lot in fines due to supporters’ misconduct.
“It has confused us as a team to receive a summary fine of E5 000 from the SwaziBank Cup MC in which our fans are said to have invaded the field of play after the Royal Leopard/Mbabane Swallows game,” Khumalo said.
He said they had not expected any charges regarding that incident since Highlanders had long finished playing.

On the day in question, which is last weekend at the Somhlolo National Stadium, Highlanders played Young Buffaloes in the semi-final and crashed out in a penalty shoot-out.
“We believe the incident we’re paying for was beyond our control as even our marshals had been released after our game hence we could not have controlled them for the Leopard game. This is something we wanted  to highlight in our press conference yesterday (Thursday),” he said.

Khumalo said it was a tough decision but they were also tired of the continued fines as they had been coming in since January and all supporter-related.
“So, we’ve called a supporters’ meeting on Sunday (tomorrow) where we intend talking to them about the decision. If they go to the games they must go as individuals and not parade our brand to avoid further sanctions,” Khumalo explained.

He said they were aware this would be done to monitor but they were hopeful the supporters would understand fines were derailing the club’s vision. He further said they would also seek the PLS’ advice on the latest fine which has led to this stance by the club.
Meanwhile, PLS Chief Operations Officer (COO) and SwaziBank Cup MC Secretary John Mazibuko could not be reached for comment when sought as his cellphone rang without any response despite several attempts.
