SIMUNYE - Government through the Nomsa Dlamini – led Board of EWADE, has renewed Dr Samson Sithole’s contract as CEO for an unprecedented third consecutive term.

Government has extended Dr Sithole’s contract by three more years. Sources close to the matter tipped off this publication earlier in the week, suggesting that the renewal had already been finalised and that an official announcement was imminent. The information was later verified by Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise’s (EWADE) Corporate Communications Manager, Nokwazi Hlophe, who confirmed that the CEO disclosed the news to staff during a Vusela talk at Simunye Country Club on Tuesday.

“The delivery of this news turned the atmosphere electric,” Hlophe said in an interview. “It was more than an internal announcement—it was a celebration. The overwhelming reaction from staff is a reflection of the high regard in which Dr Sithole is held and the transformational journey he has steered since 2016.”

Speaking to the Times of Eswatini’s Business Desk, Dr Sithole confirmed the development and reflected on what the contract renewal represents: “This is a strong indication that the organisation is doing great things in transforming the lives of emaSwati, especially those in rural communities. It’s an endorsement not just of my leadership, but of our collective impact as a team.”

Since assuming office in 2016, Dr Sithole has presided over the transformation of EWADE from an entity focused primarily on large-scale irrigation into a multifaceted development agency whose influence now cuts across agriculture, water infrastructure and rural development.

“This broadened mandate now includes small water infrastructure, the rehabilitation of critical assets, and even regional expansion,” said Dr Sithole.

He cited the launch of the Mkhondvo–Ngwavuma Water Augmentation Programme (MNWAP) as a flagship achievement, ‘a transformative initiative expected to touch every sector of our economy.’
