Gifted Kosie is an Amapiano, Afro-house and Gqom DJ with the soul of a performer and the DNA of an engineer. Raised by a sound engineer, she treats every venue like a studio. Her childhood served as a masterclass for the professional she is today.

Her career began in primary school where she started dancing professionally. She joined the drum majorettes and led in every category. By high school, other institutions were headhunting her to choreograph their routines.

This led her to establish her own group, ‘Body Movement Club’. She started DJing at a young age with a friend, forming the duo ‘Trend Twins’. As the pair matured, they launched individual brands and she established herself as ‘Gifted Kosie’ alongside their joint venture.

One of her primary strengths is being a fast learner, which fuels her creativity on stage. As a dancing DJ, she signals the crowd and breaks the ice, encouraging everyone to hit the dance floor.

She always ensures she is dressed for the occasion. Whether there is a formal theme or not, she aims to turn heads the moment she enters the room.

For major festivals, she utilises her choreography skills by selecting dancers to perform alongside her. She is resilient, once she sets her mind to a goal, she achieves it regardless of the challenges.

Kosie can be her own harshest critic because she pays such close attention to detail. She often finds herself striving for more rather than applauding her work or appreciating her smaller accomplishments.

Growing up, she was inspired by South Africa’s DJ Zinhle and continues to respect her work immensely. Zinhle’s career motivated her to pursue greatness and follow in those iconic footsteps.

While they have unique styles, Kosie still looks up to her. Her background as a choreographer was the catalyst for her DJing career, she wanted the autonomy to mix her own dance tracks without relying on anyone else.

Vision is the most significant aspect of her life. She aspires to expand her brand through consistency and hard work. She surrounds herself with goal-oriented people who push her to excel, celebrate her efforts and correct her when she is wrong.

When she is not creating music or behind the decks, she is at her dance studio sharpening her skills. She also works with schools where she is commissioned to teach drum majorettes and dance until they reach the finals. She is multitalented and creates her own outfits from scratch as a professional crochet artist.

Her secret ingredient is consistency. She focuses on creating and posting regular content for her brand. Her advice to others is to never be afraid to ask for help from more experienced DJs or dancers.

She avoids drama at all times, both in person and on social media, which has helped her maintain a clean and professional brand.

Posting her work regularly has been transformative. Recently, she secured a gig in India purely through her social media presence. The organisers saw her work, researched her profile and booked her.

When asked about her love life and as we are within the month of love, Kosie states that she believes Valentine’s Day represents something far more profound. “It is a day dedicated to expressing love through meaningful gestures, strengthening bonds with partners and family and cultivating a sense of self-compassion,” she said.
