MBABANE – New edition, new stage!
The Makoti Festival is set to make its fifth edition bigger and bolder, introducing a second stage to showcase a broader range of talent and cultural expression. Organisers say this expansion reflects the festival’s growth from a national celebration into a regional platform for music, dance and heritage.
Festival Director Isidoro Pinto explained that the addition of a second stage will allow the event to feature more performers, provide diverse experiences for attendees and create a richer programme overall.
“As the festival grows, we want to give space to multiple voices and talents.
The second stage will let us showcase both established artists and emerging performers in a way that everyone can enjoy,” he said.
The move also opens the door for a stronger blend of contemporary music and traditional performances. In addition to headline acts, a 20-member cultural dance group from Nyembane, Mozambique, will perform on the second stage, bringing the rhythms and stories of local communities to a wider audience. Pinto said the festival hopes to feature even more cultural groups in future editions, reflecting its commitment to celebrating African heritage while embracing innovation.
The dual-stage format promises a more dynamic festival experience. While one stage features headline performances and interactive sets, the other will host live cultural displays, DJs and emerging artists. Organisers believe this approach will cater to different tastes and allow attendees to explore the full spectrum of talent without missing key moments.
By introducing a second stage, the Makoti Festival is signalling its evolution into a multi-dimensional celebration where music, dance and cultural pride converge. The expansion also reinforces the festival’s founding vision, to unite communities, celebrate women and create a platform for regional cultural exchange.
