MBABANE - The sonic landscape of the hit series ‘Uzalo’ is set for a refreshing Swati infusion.

Phila Koshin of Icon PB recently revealed that music preparations for the South African drama series, season 12 are accurately tailored to the narrative as the music for the series is prepared according to script and the scenes that will play, putting emphasis that the soundtrack thrives on diversity rather than repetition.

The journey to the screen has been a wake-up call for the local industry. While many Eswatini artists initially dismissed the opportunity as a prank, others fell short by failing to adhere to the strict criteria outlined in the official invitations.

Despite the inclusion of several siSwati tracks, the road to selection was not without its hurdles. Koshin expressed a sense of disappointment regarding those who failed to show up or meet the professional standards required for such a high-profile production. He stressed the importance of artists being registered with collection bodies to ensure they are legally and commercially viable for the industry.

In a bid for authenticity, the production has enlisted the expertise of Subjamz and a curated selection of Swati vocalists. Key names set to feature in the soundscape include Zweli Dlamini and Zinia. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between local talent and international platforms, blending genres ranging from Gospel and Kwaito to Dance and contemporary Pop culture.

Icon PB remains optimistic about the future of Swati music in television. “The team remains always open to working with more Eswatini vocalists that are ready to match the professional rigour of the regional stage,” he said. For those who made the cut, Season 12 represents more than just a gig, it is a definitive showcase of Eswatini’s cultural heartbeat.

Based in Durban, South Africa, Icon PB Music has forged a strong reputation within the industry. The company holds significant contracts with esteemed production houses such as Stein Glass and Tshedza Productions, a demonstration to its expertise and reliability. Their portfolio boasts an impressive array of memorable soundtracks for hit television shows including The Wife, ‘Amalanga Awafani’, ‘Shaka iLembe’ and ‘Isibaya’. This proven track record positions Icon PB Music as a formidable partner for emerging Swati talent.

The collaborative venture represents a significant opportunity for Swati producers and artists. Icon PB Music is keen to empower local talent, providing a platform to showcase their skills on a wider stage. The company believes that by partnering with musicians from Eswatini, they can infuse the television dramas with unique cultural perspectives and vibrant new sounds.
