MBABANE – The man who escaped from police custody is reportedly wanted in connection with 30 housebreaking and theft cases.

Neliswa Mbutfo Mapitsane Malaza (32) of Msunduza escaped from lawful custody on Saturday, and the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has appealed to the public for assistance in locating him. Malaza reportedly targeted areas including Thembelihle, Dalriach, Beverly Hills and Fonteyn, specialising in stealing electronics, which he is believed to have sold in neighbouring countries.

Police are urging the public to report any information about his whereabouts. “If you have seen him or know where he might be, do not play detective. Contact Hhohho RCBO J. Dlamini on 7606 7447 or Mbabane desk officer Inspector Akhona Dludlu on 7626 0105 immediately,” REPS said.

Residents of the affected suburbs have expressed frustration at the repeated offences.

One Dalriach resident said: “He has been arrested so many times for nearly the same crimes, yet he keeps being released. The bail system is failing our community.”

A Beverly Hills resident added: “Every time he is out, our safety is at risk. People are losing faith in the law because nothing seems to change.”

Police warned that Malaza is considered dangerous and urged the public not to approach him. Authorities emphasised that anyone with information should report it immediately to help bring him back into custody.
