Police crack the whip at Facebook party
MBABANE – The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) cracked the whip on fun lovers by breaking off the Facebook party at the Theatre Club last Saturday.
Uncompromising police officers let themselves into the packed venue at 2 am and demanded that the place be closed down.
According to police PRO, Senior Superintendent Vusi Masuku, the police closed the place down because the club’s licence does not allow the sale of alcohol after midnight. He also said it was wrong for the place to be open at 2am as people would not be able to get home safely. Masuku said this exposed them to criminal opportunists. He also urged owners of liquor licences to respect their limit.
The host of the party, Grooveworxx Company, confirmed that the police invaded the party and ordered them to shut the place down. The Director, Njabulo ‘JB’ Masuku, said they had an arrangement with the relevant people at the Theatre Club and they had told them they had obtained an extension.
“We were all surprised on this day as we had been operating at the same venue for the past three months and the police never bothered us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bongani Hleta of the Theatre Club said they had an extension to their operating hours on the day. He said they had not obtained an extension of two hours which is why the police shut the place down.
He said he thought the police would ask them to stop selling alcohol, but they seemed determined to stop the music and order people to leave.
However, this could not deter the funlovers who stayed in their cars at the venue until the early hours of the morning.
The RSP this week issued a warning to fun lovers and entertainment nightspots that they would effect the law on those who fail to adhere to it.
