Man arrested for E20 000 Lewis fraud
MBABANE – Hhohho Police Commercial Fraud Unit have arrested a 42 year old man of Mankayane for allegedly defrauding Lewis furniture shop over E20 000.
Elijah Mabuza yesterday made his first appearance before Mbabane Senior Magistrate Henry Khumalo.
On the first count Mabuza is alleged to have misrepresented to Mbabane Lewis Stores sales person, Moses Dlamini that it was his honest belief that his house at Msunduza was broken into on February 22, 2010 and a Hi- sense television valued E9 999 brought on hire purchase from the same shop was stolen.
It also stated that Mabuza even went to report the matter to the Mbabane police station under RCC- 1077/2010 and by means of the said misrepresentation induced the shop to its potential prejudice of E9 999.
On the second count, Mabuza is alleged to have misrepresented himself to Pigg’s Peak Lewis stores sales person Rocky Mahlangu that a certain order number was valid, authentic and a good transaction. He is also alleged to have further lied that he was Philemon Mthembeni Mabuza employed by Commercial Auto Parts as Sales Manager and in the process induced the shop to its potential prejudice of E12 890.
Mabuza applied that he be admitted to bail and it was fixed at E4 000, he however paid E1000 and the remaining amount was in a form of sure-ty.
As part of his bail condition Mabuza was warned not to interfere with any Crown witnesses in this matter, must attend all remand hearings, should not commit any offence where fraud is an element and that he should avail himself to court whenever ordered to do so by the court.
Appearing for the crown in this matter was prosecutor Thabo Dlamini while Khumalo presided.
