155 teachers probed for sex with pupils
MBABANE – A total of 155 teachers are being probed by the Ministry of Education and Training for allegedly sexually abusing pupils.
Out of these, 13 are principals, five are deputy principals and 139 are teachers.
Four of the investigated teachers are females.
Information released by Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education Pat Muir reflects that most of the perpetrators are in the Hhohho region where 54 teachers are being probed while Shiselweni has 52, Lubombo with 30 and Manzini has 19 such cases.
"The Ministry of Education and Training is greatly troubled by the increasing number of child abuse cases in schools perpetrated by teachers because such conduct goes against their professions conduct," Muir said in the statement.
He assured that the ministry was hard at work trying to fight sexual abuse of children in the country’s schools.
"While the ministry expresses its concern on the issue, it also pleads with teachers to desist from this immoral act and treat pupils as children and impart knowledge instead of abusing them. The office of the schools’ manager is flooded with such reports on a daily basis," the PS stated.
He reminded teachers of the Teaching Services Regulations of 1983 which spelled out clearly that they should not indulge in love affairs with pupils.
"It is a serious offence to indulge in sexual intercourse with pupils and may lead to serious discipline," Muir added.

They must be fired! How can we entrust sexual predators to teach and take care of our kids if that's what they do in turn. It's sickening and very troubling!

Why does the government tolerate this ghastly evil acts by this perverted sex maniacs masquerading as teachers. The government must simply fire these individuals and black list them. We have the same sickness here in SA in the township schools and the unions especially SADTU is protecting them. Mr. Muir must deal viciously with these thugs. Mr. Edgar Mavuso shaya letintfo kuyatse netikhotsa as you used to say to us as students when we misbehaved.
