SNPF employee wants bus fare
MBABANE- A Swaziland National Provident Fund employee has taken the institution to the Industrial Court where he wants to be paid travelling allowance.
The employee, Elphas Masuku, through his union, the Swaziland Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (SUFIAW) alleges that on July 30, 2003, the union entered into a Collective Agreement with the institution regarding their terms and conditions of employment.
According to the agreement, the institution agreed to reimburse all the employees not housed in the fund’s quarters on a monthly basis subject to a maximum of 42km radius.

It also provided that non-clerical employees had an option of vacating the fund’s quarters and be paid an allowance if he/she chooses not to be housed by the employer.
The fund agreed to pay such employees a bus fare allowance equal to the fare that the employee would have to pay when going to work.
However, Masuku complains that from May 2004, the fund has failed to pay him his travel claims in terms of the agreement. He wants the fund to pay him his travel allowance from May 2004 to date.
The matter is still pending at the court. Masuku is represented by Dunseith Attorneys.
