Earnshaw to exhibit art pieces for women
MBABANE – In what is a first of its kind in Swazi-land, ‘it is fashion meets art’ as an art show is being hosted at an urban wear outlet.
The show is hosted by local artist, Thulani Earnshaw, who has just returned from the city of Chicago in the United States of America about four months ago.
Aim
It is dubbed ‘Women, Mask, Motion’ and began on Saturday at Willybamz clothing store.
Earnshaw said it will run until September 11, with the main aim being to celebrate women since August is women’s month.
In the duration of the show, the artist will be showcasing his art pieces dedicated to women, to illustrate how he acknowledges that women are still subjected to oppression and abuse.
Influences
The artwork being showcased will also be on sale and will be changed in the duration of the show.
"I am showcasing the highest form of Contemporary Art so as to show people how urban wear influences fine art. This, I will explain to the people during the reception to be held at the store on August 28, from 5pm to 8pm," he said.
He mentioned that wine and cheese will be served during the reception and anybody interested in art is welcome to attend the event.
Surprise
He also explained about the title of the show, saying it refers to the paintings because they are women paintings, who are in motion, and that any picture is viewed as a mask.
Willybamz is a shop that sells hip hop oriented clothing and those who want to go to the reception will find the shop at Coronation building, Dzeliwe Street in Mbabane next to Multichoice.
Other than the cheese and wine to be served, there will also be a surprise live performance on the night.
