Badminton big meet on September 26
MBABANE – The association of Badminton Swaziland will host their Annual General Meeting on September 26.
The ninth edition of the meeting will be held at the OlympAfrica Centre starting at 9am. In an interview with the association’s executive member Mbali Ginindza yesterday, she said they would among other issues elect the new executive to run the association.
She said the new executive was expected to be in office for the next four years.
"In this AGM we will elect a new office since the time for the current executive has elapsed," she said.
Ginindza said the nomination forms were now available at the Badminton Swaziland office at Dlan’ubeka Building and they need to be returned to the office by September 17.
She also urged the clubs to pay their affiliation fees for the 2010/2011 in time for the meeting.
"All clubs need to pay so that they are eligible to vote on the day of the meeting. We also encouraged them to make sure they attend the meeting without fail and also keep time," she said.
She said they would also be discussing the association’s financial records, which she said was also one of the most important issues on the agenda.

...BSD to host umpires workshop
MBABANE – The association of Badminton Swaziland (BSD) is inviting all umpires to a workshop to be held on September 18-20.
The two-day workshop will be held at the Thokoza Church centre. The association’s executive member Mbali Ginindza said the main objective of the workshop was to increase the pool of umpires as they were experiencing difficulties when hosting big tournaments.
"We felt we need to increase the umpires because most of the umpires are also players and they end up wanting to play leaving us with no volunteers to officiate during the games," she said.
She said the workshop would be conducted by Sihle Mokoena, who is fresh from a high level court officials course held in Mauritius last month. She said the course was funded by the Badminton Confederation of Africa.
She said some of the things to be learnt during the workshop include the new amended rules as well as court dimensions for the beginners.
" Our rules are changed every after two years, so we need to introduce them to the umpires as they play a role in the implementation of these rules," she said.
She said they were also inviting people who are interested in knowing more about the sport.
"Our main target in this workshop is to get people to learn more about officiating as opposed to having the players do both. That is why we are encouraging people to come in their numbers for this workshop," she said.
