Sundowns academy players for Brazil
MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns Under-13 youth academy players will have a chance to go to Brazil to sharpen their skills.
This is if the players manage to impress a visiting Brazilian team of experts who are on a recruitment mission in Africa.
They are from an organisation called OLAY that specialises in youth development.
Head of the team’s academy Penuel Malinga said the delegation of four people would jet into the country today for the assignment.
"They have been to South Africa already where they have identified two players. What will happen on Sunday is that we will organise players around Manzini for the one day festival. They will then select four players who will be trained at the Sundowns academy for a month before being sent to Brazil," he said.
Sundowns director Alberto Faria Samuels viewed the opportunity as a breakthrough for the youngsters in the academy.
"We are looking at such opportunities as motivation to the youngsters, especially in country like Swaziland where football is not taken seriously."
The visiting team is also expected to meet with the country’s Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Hlobisile Ndlovu, over the weekend.
