More people charged with E50 million theft
MBABANE- It is now official: two more people than those initially charged will be prosecuted for the E50 million theft, this newspaper can reveal.
The acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Mumcy Dlamini confirmed that her office had indicted more people than the eight initially charged in the now widely publicised case. Dlamini was non committal in giving out names but confirmed that they were going ahead with the prosecution and that more people had been charged for the similar offence. Police PRO Vusi Masuku confirmed that two people were charged in January in connection to the E50 million case. He, however did not divulge the names.
Initially, eight people were charged including businessman Qhawe Mamba, Sabelo Mavuso, former Finance Principal Secretary Musa Fakudze, Dr Ben Dlamini, amongst others.
This newspaper has been informed that the office of the DPP on Friday filed their intention to continue with the matter through the office of the High Court Registrar, Lorraine Hlophe.
The acting DPP confirmed on Friday that they had received the E50 million docket from the police. She said they were on a process of meeting their deadline as mandated by the High Court.
Yesterday, High Court Registrar Lorraine Hlophe confirmed that the DPP’s office had filed their notice for summary trial and that the matter was brought to the Chief Justice who blessed the DPP’s intention to prosecute in the matter.
"Yes we have received notification that the matter would go ahead. What will happen from now on is that I would have to arrange a summary trial and then allocate a date for the commencement of the trial," Hlophe said when called yesterday.
