Inyatsi sponsors basketball under-16s
MBABANE – The Swaziland National Basketball Association Under-16s got a major boost ahead of their Zimbabwean trip.
The team was sponsored with E20 000 worth of kits by Inyatsi Construction Group. The kit consisted of playing jerseys and tracksuits. The team left the country yesterday to participate in the FIBA Zone Six Under-16 Africa Nations Championships, which begin today.
Inyatsi Financial Director Sipho Thomo said as a company they were happy to be associated with the sport. He said this was one sport that was key in the development of the youth in the country.
“We take great pleasure in being associated with basketball and we wish them well, as they go out to represent the country,” he said.
The team was sponsored with a playing kit for both the boys and girls’ squads, which consist of 24 players (12 girls and 12 boys).They also got tracksuits for the whole team and officials.
Also present during the presentation was Swaziland National Sports Council (SNSC) CEO Victor Shabangu, who thanked the company for the kind gesture. He said he was happy that the basketball association was finally active again after being dormant for close to a decade.
“We are confident that the partnership between the two parties will go a long way,” he said. He then urged the team to do well in the tournament. He said if they failed to win they should at least go beyond the first or second round. Other countries that have confirmed participation in the championships include Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Lesotho
