Traditional healer wants bail after patient's death
MBABANE – A murder accused traditional healer has denied that her client died as a result of her negligence in administering medicine.
Badelisile Mkhulisi of Nhlangano was arrested by Nhlangano police on April 29, 2009 after the death of a 25-year old woman in her healing house. She has since applied to be released on bail pending setting of a trial date for the matter. In her papers filed at the High Court, she alleged that on April 28, 2009 a certain woman approached her to administer traditional medicine after complaining of chest pains.
“At midnight of the same day, she woke me up and complained that the burning sensation in her chest was getting worse, I administered another traditional medicine on her,” she stated in her papers.
Mkhulisi also stated that on the following day, she discovered that the woman had died and she reported the matter to the police, who subsequently detained her. She stated that she was a practicing traditional healer with so many years experience in the field. “Some of the people I have assisted have come back to thank me for a job well done.
I wish to reiterate that the deceased never passed away because of my negligence on my part as alleged by the police. I will plead not guilty of the charge since it was not my intention to kill the deceased,” she said. Mkhulisi also pleaded with the court to release her on bail and promised to abide by the conditions. She stated that she was a bona fide Swazi citizen and would not skip the bail conditions. Justice Mbutfo Mamba postponed the matter by consent to May 29, 2009.
