MBABANE – The Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise (EWADE) has hailed significant progress in the first quarter of 2025, with CEO Dr Samson Sithole highlighting key milestones in the organisation’s latest newsletter.

Dr Sithole praised the quarter as one marked by ‘collaboration, strategic focus, and visible outcomes’, citing the induction of a new Board of Directors as a key step in strengthening governance and operational oversight.

The Board’s familiarisation tours underscored the scale and impact of EWADE’s projects.

At the Mahlangatsha cluster of the Commercial Maize Project, a bumper harvest achieved by farmer beneficiaries stood out as proof of the organisation’s robust farmer support model. Under the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project (LUSIP II), maize production nearly doubled to almost 300 tonnes this season, reinforcing food security as the yield was stored at Matsapha, under the National Maize Corporation.

Dr Sithole also mentioned the 50-hectare bean production initiative at Paradise Farm under the HambaUbuye programme, which is bolstering national food security efforts.
