MBABANE – Minister for Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka has called on farmers to strengthen their role in boosting Eswatini’s economy.

The minister pledged continued government support to improve food security and increase the agricultural sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Speaking at the Eswatini National Agricultural Union (ESNAU) Annual Policy Conference held last week, Minister Tshawuka noted government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for farmers, encouraging action-oriented outcomes rather than ‘talk-shops’ with no tangible results.

 “It is my hope that this event will be action-oriented. I should be the first to bear witness that there has been significant movement when I return next year,” said the minister.

The minister acknowledged the challenges facing farmers, including the recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in parts of the Shiselweni Region, which has disrupted livelihoods and trade. He commended farmers for adhering to strict control measures and expressed confidence that trade activities would resume soon if protocols continue to be followed.
